"Although silhouette art was part of the Roman culture, the French are credited with the side view or profile view of a person's head and shoulder" Global Art (page 82). Neither of my girls wanted to sit still long enough to trace each other so we decided to take a picture of the silhouette on the wall rather draw it. We'll attempt the silhouette drawing in two years during our Rome to Reformation school year.
This week we added Exploring Creation with Zoology 3: Land Animals of the Sixth Day (Apologia Science) to spice up our science time. We are enjoying this book and looking forward to this addition.
Katelyn's Summary:
We created a M&M habitat with orange, brown, and green construction paper. The orange and green M&M’s blended in, or camouflaged the best. The red and blue ones were the easiest to spot. If the M&M’ could reproduce the orange and green ones would reproduce faster. The red and blue ones would die off and become extinct because predators would find them. This is an example of natural selection. Animals that survive in a habitat reproduce faster. (Activity from Exploring Creation with Zoology 3: Land Animals of the Sixth Day).
We chose French crepes for our cooking activity. We all gave it a 2 thumbs up. We enjoyed our French Crepes with strawberries and maple syrup. A new family tradition has started, making French Crepes on Bastille Day!

- We use Duolingo.com
- Duolingo is a fun, free, & fantastic learning tool.
- Much of the learning happens in the form of quizzes, which switch between testing speaking, listening, and writing. The grammar and sentence constructions become progressively difficult as you go along. It keeps reviewing previously learned words, allowing you to progress from basic words all the way through various verb tenses and abstract ideas.
- We love that we can compare progress with our friends through Facebook
