What We Learned:

Bible

• Memory Verse:  The 10 Commandments review 2 Timothy 3:16-17
• Bible Reading: We read Genesis 17-21: "God's Covenant with Abraham," "Abraham Entertaining Angels," "The Destruction of Sodom," & Isaac is born.

History Notebook

• Ancient Egypt Reading & Writing
• Egyptians developed the worlds first writing paper - Papyrus Paper
• See your name in hieroglyphs - this site is fun but incorrect. This site did not take into account for silent letters or the ch being a single sound.  
• We found the lesson on Virtual Egypt more accurate
• Design an Ancient Cartouche 
• 
  Our Cartouches -A cartouche is a name plate. It's usually oval with your name written in the middle of it. My name in Hieroglyphs:
   
  
  The girls used this image as their back drop and copied the images from virtual Egypt.
  I must admit I am so super proud that my girls have learned to copy and paste images.   I bet they will be digital scrap-booking in no time at all. They also used our Fun with Hieroglphys stamp set to stamp their names and decipher several hieroglyphs.  
• The Rosetta stone - The Rosetta Stone is a stone with writing on it in two languages (Egyptian and Greek), using three scripts (hieroglyphic, demotic and Greek). The Rosetta Stone is written in three scripts because when it was written, there were three scripts being used in Egypt.  
  
  
  
  The first was hieroglyphic which was the script used for important or religious documents. The second was demotic which was the common script of Egypt. The third was Greek which was the language of the rulers of Egypt at that time.

  We replaced one of the batteries with foil.  We were amazed that the flashlight still worked.  It was dimmer since the 1 battery contained less chemical energy to convert to electrical energy. As a result there was less energy for the flashlight to convert to radiant energy.
  
• The Light you don't see - We were amazed that we were unable to see the infrared light, from the remote, with our eyes but that we could see it on our digital camera.

• Make Papyrus -
  
  
  We mixed glue, water, and flour to create our glue mixture.   We layered strips of a brown paper bag on wax paper
  
  
   
  Next we used a rolling pin to flatten our papyrus.
    
  
  We let our paper dry over night.  R trimmed her paper, but K preferred the rough look.

• Duolingo is a fun, free, & fantastic learning tool.
• Much of the learning happens in the form of quizzes, which switch between testing speaking, listening, and writing. 
• The grammar and sentence constructions become progressively difficult as you go along. It keeps reviewing previously learned words,allowing you to progress from basic words all the way through various verb tenses and abstract ideas. 
• We love that we can compare progress with our friends.
