What We Learned:

Bible

• Memory Verse:  The 10 Commandments review 2 Timothy 3:16-17
• Bible Reading: Our Journey through the Bible covered Genesis 22-39: Abraham Offers Isaac, A Bride for Isaac, Esau sells his Birthright, Jacob deceives Isaac, Jacob's Ladder, Jacob Meets Rachel, Joseph's Coat, Joseph as a slave, & Life in Potiphar's House.
• MFW Bible Reader: "A wife for Isaac," "Jacob leaves Home," & "Joseph"
• Biblical Worldview - As we began to exploring the characteristics of God, we addressed the question, "Does God Exist?". God reveals in Scripture that He exists, and creation itself testifies to his glory.  "Could such a great symphony as the universe have no conductor?" (Albert Einstein). There is only one true, living, and almighty God. We have studied how the Egyptians and Greeks had a different view of the after life and idol worship, but idolatry isn't only a thing of the past.   An idol can be person or thing that receives praise and “worship” and is given an unhealthy place before God.

• Tomb Painting - A great deal has been learned about life in Ancient Egypt from tomb painting. The size the people are drawn indicates relative importance in the social order. The king, or pharaoh, is usually the largest figure depicted to symbolize the ruler’s superhuman powers. Explore wall painting from Nebamun's Tomb from around 1400 BC.
  
  

• Egyptian Homes & Villas Most Egyptian houses were constructed out of a mud brick and typically had a flat roof.  We explored Egyptian Housing and took a short online Quiz.

• Reflection on Windows - You can always see your reflection in the window, just not as well during the day.The light coming in from outside makes it easier to focus your eyes past the window to your surroundings outside, instead of focusing on the reflection.

Art & Music

• Tomb Painting - Drawing an Egyptian - We learned that people were drawn from a profile angle, but the shoulders were always facing forward. We decided to combine our Drawing and tomb painting art projects.  First we made plaster squares to represent our tomb walls.  
  
  
  

  

  
   
  
  
  
  
  
  
• An Egyptian Villa - The girls added pillars as supporting beams and included stones to cover their water storage tanks and sun shields.  K added stairs while R crafted a ladder for access to the upper floors.

Spanish

• Duolingo is a fun, free, & fantastic learning tool.
• Much of the learning happens in the form of quizzes, which switch between testing speaking, listening, and writing. 
• The grammar and sentence constructions become progressively difficult as you go along. It keeps reviewing previously learned words,allowing you to progress from basic words all the way through various verb tenses and abstract ideas. 
• We love that we can compare progress with our friends.
