Cartographers face the "orange peel" problem when mapping the surface of Earth onto a flat piece of paper.
We tried to flatten our maps, but discovered that it is not possible to make a flat map of a curved
surface without some distortion. Often land appears larger on a flat map. On some maps Greenland
appears to be the same size as Africa, yet Africa's land mass is actually fourteen times larger.
